5% Raise for 2007-2008 The following is the language for the Memorandum of Understanding that will be added to the 2006-2009 Contract: We, the undersigned representatives of the Sumner County education Association and the Sumner County Board of Education agree to the following matters concerning Professional Employee salaries and supplements which are included in the Sumner County Schools' Professional Employee contract for SY2006-2009. This Memorandum of Understanding replaces the signed and ratified agreement dated April 16, 2007.
1. There will be an increase of 1% to the total salary for each professional employee for SY2007-2008 to be funded with local funds. This 1% increase is in addition to any state teacher salary increases. However in no case will any professional employee recieve less than a 5% salary increase when local, state raises and applicable salary step-increases are combined. Should a professional employee's state and local salary increase and applicable salary step-increase equal less than 5% the professional employee's salary will be adjusted to reflect a 5% salary increase for SY 2007-2008. These salary increase will be included in the Sumner County Schools' budget presented to the Sumner County Commission and will become a part of the professisonal employee salary schedule.
2. In addition, the Sumner County Board of Education agrees to adjust the number of supplements allocated to elementary schools as follows:
Each elementary school will receive a minimum of six (^) academic/non-academic teacher supplements.
In all cases, these supplements shal be considerd as $300 and may be used to augment any local school supplements as determined by the principal. A full supplement may be divided among two (2) or more teachers. No teacher may receive more than two (2) supplements.

Legislative NewsMany educators think that politics should be left to the politicians and often wonder why TEA has lobbyists working with state legislators every day and why TEA supports legislators who support public education.
This year TEA has introduced legislation to increase salary, improve retirement benefits, and increase the amount the state sends to the school system for insurance. Additionally, TEA has a bill that would allow teachers to take one college course per semester tuition free. These bills that would improve the lives and careers of educators are only a few of the education bills introduced.
